Insurance while you are renting is referred to as Fire and Extended Coverage. Tenants are responsible for their own contents insurance. The contract says a coverage of $300,000 is required for liability. This covers claims that the property in some way caused an injury, it is not property insurance. We are added as a rider on this coverage as we are acting in your behalf to keep the property maintained. Some insurance companies will not write the insurance. You should just wait until someone is in the property before you make this change. Insurance companies can be edgy about a property being vacant. Here are a couple contacts that will write Fire and Extended coverage if your company prefers not to write that type of policy.
